Our centenary year

The organisation was set up with the goal of providing new homes to railwaymen, and their families, returning from service in the First World War.
The first homes were built and opened, in Haddricks Mill Road, South Gosforth, on 28th May 1921.
Fast forward to 2018 and we are now approaching our centenary year in 2019.
Over that time, all that has changed is our name (we became Railway Housing Association in 1982) and the fact people no longer need to have a connection to the railway to be offered one of our homes.
We now specialise in older people’s accommodation and from those first homes opened in 1921, we have grown into a modern, forward-thinking organisation proving over 1,500 homes across 24 local authority areas.
We have now began the process of deciding how we are going to celebrate our centenary year in 2019.
The plan is to hold a number of events throughout the year and just some of the ideas discussed so far include producing a special edition of our newsletter, organising parties at our sheltered schemes and having afternoon tea on a 100-year-old directors train carriage.
If you have any ideas that you would like to put forward, or know of sponsorship/funding opportunities that would enable us to hold as many events as possible, we would love to hear from you.
